Our purposes are simple – they are the five purposes of every Biblical church: Worship, Evangelism, Discipleship, Ministry and Fellowship. We seek to be a community of followers of Jesus Christ who live out our lives in such a way that honors God Who has so loved us, and that bears witness to those in our culture that He is real, and that He can be known. The vision of Bethel Light revolves around three core themes.
Worship – [Psalm 95:6]
We are, and have from the beginning sought to be, a gathering of people from all walks of life – and from all spiritual levels. We say “whether you are a skeptic, a seeker or a career missionary, we welcome you into our worship service.” Our worship “style” is both traditional and contemporary by any standard, yet that is not our emphasis. Our worship is engaging, celebratory and meditative. Using texts and traditions from the past along with music and styles from the present we worship and enjoy the living God. Followers of Christ find the services to be a wonderful opportunity to participate in engaging worship that highlights the joy and the grandeur of God. The power, beauty and relevance of the services generally surprise and capture the imagination of people exploring Christianity.
We place great emphasis on vital worship – worship that honors God and draws people in.
Outreach – [Matthew 25:31-40]
We are committed to ministering in the community with outstretched hands, seeking to care for, serve, and love those around us. We are a church that believes the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the answer for people’s hearts and souls. We also believe that too often society sees churches as the opposition – harsh, condemning, and judgmental. We are striving to change that perception by emulating Christ with our ministry, standing on truth while stepping out with love. We look forward to Bethel Light’s continued growth and maturity, and we see this ministry becoming a cornerstone of the Universal Body of Christ, as we learn to put our faith into action in a lost and needy world.
Multi-Racial Community – [Genesis1:27 and Ephesians 2:10]
The leadership at Bethel Light has made a commitment to our church becoming a place where the barriers that divide people are eliminated. We believe that it is not God’s will to have Sunday morning services be the most segregated time of the week. We feel that our church has been called to reflect the racial makeup of our community. While we are still predominantly an African-American church, we look forward to the day when our dream of becoming a truly multi-ethnic church becomes a reality.
